Job Description

The Behavioral Health Counselor role supports adults without dependent children facing mental health, substance use, or homelessness challenges through culturally competent, brief counseling and pre-vocational services.

  • Provides short-term mental health and substance abuse counseling, case management, and referrals within a collaborative framework.
  • Conducts biopsychosocial assessments to determine client needs and suitability for services or work assignments.
  • Engages clients through outreach at Navigation Centers and facilitates workshops on soft skills such as goal setting, conflict resolution, and job retention.
  • Maintains clinical records in compliance with policies, offers crisis intervention, and provides consultation to staff.
  • Participates in team meetings, case conferences, and supervision to support client care and professional development.
  • Minimum qualifications include an MS/MA in a related field, current BBS licensure, and at least one year of community-based experience providing case management, assessment, and counseling to underserved adults.
  • Preferred qualifications include experience with vocational rehabilitation, knowledge of local community resources, and familiarity with electronic health records systems.
