Job Description

The Recreation Therapist plans, organizes, and supervises recreational activities to promote healthy lifestyles, socialization, and skill development for youth in a human services setting.

  • Develops and implements diverse programs including arts, sports, drama, music, and community trips tailored to individual treatment plans.
  • Supervises facility safety, performs maintenance, and manages risk to ensure a secure environment.
  • Documents progress, participates in treatment teams, and supports positive youth engagement through role modeling and skill-building.
  • Supervises recreational activities for up to three youth and assists with special event planning.
  • Qualifications include a relevant bachelor’s degree, youth recreation experience, CPR certification, and a valid driver’s license. OMH-funded positions require a Master’s and CTRS credential.

  • Skills needed include effective communication, conflict resolution, behavior management, and teamwork. The role offers full-time hours, competitive pay, and benefits, with a requirement to work in Auburn, NY, and relocate if necessary.
