Job Description

The Recreation Therapist plans, organizes, and supervises recreational activities to promote healthy leisure, socialization, and skill development for youth.

  • Develops programs including arts, sports, drama, and community trips tailored to treatment plans.
  • Assists youth through positive role modeling and skill building.
  • Supervises recreation facilities ensuring safety and maintenance.
  • Documents progress, participates in treatment team meetings, and supports special events.
  • Supervises activities for up to three youth and completes reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications: Bachelor’s in Therapeutic Recreation or related; minimum 1 year youth recreation experience; OMH-funded programs require a Master’s and CTRS credential.

    Requirements: CPR certification, valid NYS driver’s license, and may require lifeguard certification.

    Skills: Knowledge of recreation programs, conflict resolution, de-escalation, and ethical conduct.

    Work Details: Full-time, $19.50-$28/hr, located in Auburn, NY, with benefits including health insurance, 401(k), paid time off, and more. Relocation and in-person work are required.
