Job Description
The Recreation Therapist plans and implements recreational activities to promote healthy leisure, socialization, and skill development for youth populations.
Develops diverse programs including arts, sports, and community trips aligned with treatment goals. Supervises recreation facilities ensuring safety and proper maintenance. Assists youth through role modeling and skill-building, documenting progress, and participating in treatment team meetings. Supervises recreational activities for up to three youth and supports special events. Maintains safety standards, performs basic repairs, and completes reports. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field, with relevant experience; OMH-funded programs need a CTRS credential. Must obtain CPR certification within 60 days and hold a valid NYS driver’s license. Skills include youth engagement, conflict resolution, de-escalation, and teamwork, with a focus on ethical conduct.
