Job Description
The Recreation Therapist plans and implements recreational activities to promote healthy leisure, socialization, and skill development for youth.
Develops diverse programs, including arts, sports, and community trips, tailored to treatment plans. Supervises recreation facilities ensuring safety, performs maintenance, and manages risk. Assists youth through role modeling and skill building, documenting progress and participating in treatment teams. Supervises activities for up to three youth, plans special events, and completes reports. Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field, with experience in youth recreation; OMH-funded programs require a Master’s and CTRS credential.
Certifications like CPR and Lifeguard may be required. Must have a valid NYS driver’s license.
Skills include knowledge of recreation activities, conflict resolution, de-escalation, and ethical conduct.
