Job Description

The Recreation Therapist plans and implements recreational activities to promote healthy leisure, socialization, and skill development for youth.

  • Develops diverse programs, including arts, sports, and community trips, tailored to treatment plans.
  • Supervises recreation facilities ensuring safety, performs maintenance, and manages risk.
  • Assists youth through role modeling and skill building, documenting progress and participating in treatment teams.
  • Supervises activities for up to three youth, plans special events, and completes reports.
  • Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field, with experience in youth recreation; OMH-funded programs require a Master’s and CTRS credential.

    Certifications like CPR and Lifeguard may be required. Must have a valid NYS driver’s license.

    Skills include knowledge of recreation activities, conflict resolution, de-escalation, and ethical conduct.

    The role is full-time, based in Auburn, NY, with benefits including health insurance, 401(k), paid time off, and more.
    Expected hours: 40/week, with in-person work and relocation required before start.
